Statement converter

Drop statement PDFs here

Bank or credit-card statements saved as PDFs from your bank's website. Several files at once are fine. The files are read inside this page and go nowhere else.

Add more statements

No upload. This page's security policy forbids network connections, so your file cannot leave it. See how to check that yourself.

    Plainsum Pro

Pro is a one-time $19: unlimited pages, merge several statements, and QBO, OFX and QIF export for QuickBooks, Quicken and similar tools.

After you pay, Creem emails you a license key. You paste it on the activation page, which is the only page that talks to a server. Converting never does.

    How it works

    1

    Drop your PDF

Choose one or several statements. They are opened by code in this tab. Nothing is sent to a server.

    2

    Check the preview

Review the rows, the confidence marks and the accuracy check. Fix a date, an amount or a whole column mapping if the layout was unusual.

    3

    Export

Download CSV or Excel for free. Pro adds QBO, OFX and QIF for QuickBooks and budgeting apps, and merges a year of statements into one file.

Invented example data. Wrapped descriptions are joined into one cell. The year comes from the statement period when the rows only show "Jan 02".

    Why it checks the total

Most converters give you a spreadsheet and leave you to find out later that one row was dropped or a minus sign was lost. A statement has a built-in test for that: the opening balance plus every transaction must equal the closing balance. Plainsum runs the test every time and puts the result above the table.

A match means the rows add up to the penny, which is strong evidence the table was read correctly. A mismatch tells you by how much, and the rows it is least sure about are highlighted so you know where to look first. When a statement prints a running balance, each row is also checked against the balance before it.

Matching totals do not prove every description is right. Skim the rows against your PDF before you rely on them for anything that matters, such as taxes or a loan application.

    Questions

Is my bank statement uploaded anywhere?

No. The PDF is read by code running in your browser tab. The page ships with a Content-Security-Policy that blocks every network connection, so even a bug could not send the file out. You can confirm it in your browser's developer tools: the Network tab stays empty while you convert.

Which statements does it work on?

PDFs that contain real text: the kind you download from a bank's website. It reads tables with a date, a description, and either one amount column, separate debit and credit columns, or a running balance. Scanned or photographed statements have no text to read and are not supported yet.

How do I know the numbers are right?

After reading a statement, Plainsum adds opening balance and every transaction and compares the result with the closing balance printed on the statement. The result is shown above the table as a match or a mismatch with the difference. Rows it is unsure about are marked, and you can edit any cell before exporting.

    What does it cost?

Converting to CSV and Excel is free for 20 pages a day. Pro is a one-time $19 payment for unlimited pages, merging several statements into one file, and QBO, OFX and QIF export.

    Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, yes. Conversion needs no connection, and Pro keeps working offline too. Only activating a license key on the activation page needs a connection.
