Screen Recorder by Plainsum: recordings stay on your device.

Last updated: 2 November 2026

Screen Recorder by Plainsum ("the extension") is a Chrome extension that records your tab, window or screen, with optional webcam and microphone, and saves the result on your own device.

The short version

What the extension accesses, and why

WhatWhyWhere it goes
The screen, window or tab you chooseTo record itWritten to storage on your device (see "Where recordings are stored")
Your microphone and camera, if you turn them onVoice and the webcam bubbleMixed into the recording on your device; never transmitted
Sound from the tab you recordSo it can be part of the recordingSame as above
The active tab, only when you start a recording from the toolbar button or the keyboard shortcutTo capture that tab and, if you turn on cursor effects (Pro), to draw a cursor highlight and the 3-2-1 countdown inside itNothing is read from the page; the overlay is drawn on top of it
Your settings (what to record, chosen microphone and camera, quality)To remember your choicesStored on your device in Chrome's extension storage

Chrome asks you for permission before the extension can use your microphone, camera, or the screen. You can revoke these at any time in Chrome's site settings.

Where recordings are stored

Recordings are stored in your browser's local database (IndexedDB) for this extension, on your computer. They are removed when you delete them in the extension's Library, when you remove the extension, or when you clear this extension's site data in Chrome. "Download" in the Library saves a copy to a folder you choose. Because the extension never uploads anything, we cannot see, recover or delete your recordings.

Pro license check (only if you buy Pro)

Pro is sold through Creem (creem.io), our payment provider and merchant of record. Creem collects your email address and payment details at checkout; the extension never sees or handles payment details.

After purchase you paste a license key into the extension. To activate and re-check it, the extension sends only these to our license server, which forwards them to Creem:

The extension re-checks about once a day so refunded or cancelled licenses return to Free. No recording, page content, browsing history, or personal information is included. Our license server does not store or log license keys; it keeps only a one-way hash used to honor refunds and cancellations.

What we do not do

We do not sell or share data, we do not use your data for advertising or any purpose other than the extension's single purpose, and we do not collect analytics or crash reports.

Children

The extension is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at the same address with an updated date.
